Rajasthan Royals batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi said he does not plan his celebrations and prefers trying something new every match after his 93-run knock helped RR beat Lucknow Super Giants by seven wickets in the IPL on Tuesday.
Sooryavanshi smashed 93 off 38 balls as Rajasthan Royals chased down 221 in 19.1 overs to keep their playoff hopes alive. During his innings, he celebrated his fifty with an unusual hand gesture — an inverted V with one finger across it.
Asked about the celebration after the match, the left-handed batter said: “I don’t know. I just do something new every match. I don’t really plan it. There’s no meaning behind it. Even the celebration I did in the last match had no meaning. I just keep trying new things.”
The youngster also said he does not pay attention to outside talk around him. “I don’t read any newspapers. This is just the start. If I end up making a long career, people will always speak something about me.”
Earlier in the match, Mitchell Marsh smashed 96 off 57 balls to power Lucknow Super Giants to 220 for five after being sent in to bat.
Marsh added 109 runs for the opening wicket with Josh Inglis, who made 60 off 29 balls. He later stitched another 64-run partnership with skipper Rishabh Pant, who scored 35.
In reply, stand-in RR captain Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 43 and shared a 75-run opening stand with Sooryavanshi. After Jaiswal’s dismissal, Sooryavanshi added 105 runs with Jitesh Sharma, who remained unbeaten on 53.
Sooryavanshi also moved to second on the all-time list for most runs scored in the powerplay in an IPL season. He scored 25 runs off 16 balls during the first six overs of RR’s chase.
