Warner Bros. dates Aegon’s Conquest, with serious talent at the helm
HBO’s Game of Thrones is officially coming to movie theaters. Warner Bros. announced Tuesday that the first feature film in the George R.R. Martin-created franchise, Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest, will hit cinemas in spring 2029.
A Game of Thrones alum is at the helm with director Owen Harris directing the first movie in the franchise.
Harris previously directed three episodes of HBO’s television series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: “The Hedge Knight,” “Hard Salt Beef,” and the action-packed “In the Name of the Mother,” which featured the bloody, muddy Trial of Seven. Harris’ Game of Thrones movie is written by Beau Willimon, who created and wrote Netflix’s House of Cards and wrote six episodes of Star Wars’ Andor, including the highly regarded jailbreak story “One Way Out.”
What is Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest about?
Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest is said to focus on Aegon I, the first Lord of the Seven Kingdoms who founded the Targaryen dynasty. Aegon I the Conqueror is the first king of the Targaryen dynasty, having united Westeros with his dragons Balerion, Meraxes, and Vhagar. The events of Aegon’s Conquest take place roughly 100 years before House of the Dragon (and 300 years before Game of Thrones).
Casting and production details were not announced.
Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest will be released in theaters on June 1, 2029. The Game of Thrones franchise will continue on television in 2027 with the release of season 2 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. The fourth and final season of House of the Dragon is expected to arrive in 2028.
