It’s the game neither team will have wanted to be involved in, as France and England play for the final time at the 2026 World Cup in Saturday’s third-place playoff at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.

France fell short of expectations in its semifinal against Spain, with the pretournament favorites a shadow of the team that had lit up the early stages as it slumped to a muted 2-0 defeat to its European neighbor.

England, meanwhile, will be left contemplating what might have been, having opted to sit back after taking the lead against Argentina in its last-four match. That tactical decision appeared to play into its opponent’s hands, with its retreat allowing Lionel Messi to orchestrate a 2-1 comeback win for the Argentines.

While soccer’s most coveted prize is now out of reach for these two teams, there does still remain some incentive for the players going into today’s playoff. The match provides Golden Boot award contenders Kylian Mbappé, Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham a final opportunity to score some goals. Mbappé trails the current tournament top scorer, Messi, by one goal, while Kane and Bellingham are currently two goals behind.

The game also looks set to provide a chance for fringe players who failed to make an appearance during the tournament, with England midfielder Kobbie Mainoo and France veteran N’Golo Kanté both expected to get on the pitch.

France takes on England in this third-place playoff match on Saturday, July 18, at Miami Stadium (aka Hard Rock Stadium) in Florida, with kickoff set for 5 p.m. ET. That makes it a 2 p.m. PT start on the West Coast in the US and Canada, and a 10 p.m. BST start in the UK. For those watching in Australia, it’s a 7 a.m. AEST kickoff on Sunday.

If you’re traveling abroad and want to keep up with all the World Cup action while away from home, a VPN can help enhance your privacy and security when streaming.

It encrypts your traffic and prevents your internet service provider from throttling your speeds. Additionally, it can be helpful when connecting to public Wi-Fi networks while traveling, providing an extra layer of protection for your devices and logins. VPNs are legal in many countries, including the US and Canada, and can be used for legitimate purposes such as improving online privacy and security.

If you choose to use a VPN, follow the provider’s installation instructions to ensure you’re connected securely and in compliance with applicable laws and service agreements. Some streaming platforms may block access when a VPN is detected, so verifying if your streaming subscription allows VPN use is crucial.
