Fable Dev Happy About Delay To 2027 To Avoid “Chaotic Window,” And We All Know That Means GTA 6

Microsoft’s new Fable game was supposed to launch this year, but it was delayed to February 2027. The game’s director, Ralph Fulton, said in an interview that he feels “great” about the launch timing for Fable, adding that shifting to 2027 helps the game avoid the “chaotic window” of its original timeframe of late 2026.

Speaking to IGN, Fulton said the reason for the delay “is pretty apparent to everybody.” He said he was “really looking forward to” launching Fable in 2026, saying he wasn’t happy about having another all-hands meeting with the team in January to tell them, “This is the year we ship Fable.” But alas, that’s what happened.

“The rationale for it is absolutely sound. I’m glad that we’re avoiding that chaotic window,” he said. In getting pushed to February 2027, Fable avoids launching near Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 (October 23) and GTA 6 (November 19).

Fulton did not mention GTA 6 by name in this interview, but he did previously. In June, Fulton said Fable being delayed to 2027 helps Fable avoid a “really congested period” for game releases and “obviously avoiding Grand Theft Auto.”

“Having a much less contested window allows us the opportunity to go out and really make a moment for ourselves, and I think the attention this game deserves,” he said.

Gameplay combat footage from Fable emerged online this week from Gamescom, and it looked rough, but GameSpot’s own hands-on time with the game told a different story.

Fable launches February 23, 2027 for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC.
