EXCLUSIVE: Miu Miu’s Third ‘Tales & Tellers’ Will Land in Shanghai

Under the direction of Miuccia Prada, the third iteration of “Tales & Tellers,” Miu Miu’s site-specific installation and performance, will be presented to the public on June 6 and 7 in Shanghai at the historic Shanghai Exhibition Center. A private viewing is set for June 5.

The project was conceived by interdisciplinary artist Goshka Macuga; Elvira Dyangani Ose, curator and artistic director of the Public Art Abu Dhabi Biennial — both of whom worked on the first two iterations of the project — and theater and opera director Fabio Cherstich. Macuga, who created a memorable Frankenstein-inspired robot, among other works, for an exhibition at Rong Zhai in 2019, will return to the city for the occasion.

Originally debuted in Paris in October 2024, the project works at the intersection of fashion, cinema and art. The installation is inspired by and features the film commissions that comprise Miu Miu Women’s Tales, as well as the artistic interventions from Miu Miu runway shows between spring 2022 and spring 2025.

Open to the public, visitors can register for a slot to visit via the Miu Miu Club WeChat Mini Program from May 22.

Last May the second edition of “Tales & Tellers” was showcased at the Terminal Warehouse on the West Side of Manhattan during Frieze Week. The project expanded upon Macuga’s exploration of the origin of public space, as performers activated a physical installation designed by OMA/AMO.

In Paris, the performance was staged at the Palais d’Iéna, where Miu Miu presents its runway collections.

Since 2021, female artists have collaborated on video and set installations for the Miu Miu runway shows, and these projects were represented in “Tales & Tellers.” The project was influenced by Miu Miu’s collaborations across filmmaking, art and fashion, and the project explored ever-transforming ideas of femininity.

Last November, Miu Miu brought its Literary Club to Shanghai, also staged at the Shanghai Exhibition Center. The one-day literature-centric event, titled “A Woman’s Education,” examined themes of girlhood, love and education afresh.
