Sam Raimi and Jordan Peele will produce Portrait of God, starring Chase Infiniti

Portrait of God, a horror short film by Dylan Clark that gained fame on YouTube, has been picked up by Lionsgate and will be made into a full-length movie. It follows a girl who sees God in a picture and tries to decipher what it could mean. The upcoming feature film will feature Chase Infiniti (One Battle After Another). Additionally, horror fans may be excited to learn that Jordan Peele and Sam Raimi are set to produce Portrait of God, while original creator Dylan Clark will direct the project.

Even though it only lasts seven minutes, there is a lot to digest in Portrait of God. The short begins with a quote from the Bible: “No man shall see Me and live.” This phrase is crucial when it comes to analyzing the rest of the events that unfold. It is a story about a religious girl preparing an oral presentation about a painting. While some say there is nothing on the canvas, others say that they see a person in the darkness. The reports are eerily similar. The girl then goes on to associate the picture with God and describes it as a religious experience. As she continues to prep, she begins to see something more sinister on the canvas.

Jordan Peele and Sam Raimi set to produce Portrait of God

As a short film, Portrait of God leaves a lot for the viewer’s interpretation. It will be interesting to see which direction the feature film takes us. It could expand the short movie, focus on the portrait’s backstory, or take a completely different route. Dylan Clark, who wrote, directed, and edited the short, will be directing and co-writing the feature film alongside Joe Russo (The Inheritance). As producers, horror veterans Sam Raimi (The Evil Dead) and Jordan Peele (Get Out) will surely help Clark pick the right setting.

Given the rising interest in horror movies based on internet stories, Portrait of God could be the next great thing. These types of movies tend to have a relatively low production budget as well as immediate fan interest, which is halfway to becoming a box office hit. Kane Parsons’ Backrooms, based on a creepy YouTube found-footage series with over 100 million views, was a recipe for success, and that might be what Lionsgate is going for.
