CD Projekt Red addresses divisive lighting changes in a new Witcher 3 Remastered PC patch

A second hotfix has been released for The Witcher 3 Remastered edition that directly addresses lighting concerns on PC, as well as a couple of other notable issues.

Specifically, The Witcher 3 patch (hotfix 5.00c) makes “various visual adjustments in Velen, including tweaks to Bloom, vegetation lighting, saturation, and path tracing lighting” – all things that have caused concern since the Remastered update’s release.

The hotfix also tackles an audio issue whereby voiceover volume was “significantly quieter” after using the game’s pause menus. The patch notes are as follows:

Watch on YouTube

  • Fixed an issue where the game couldn’t be saved or loaded if the path to the Documents folder contained special characters.
  • Fixed an issue where voiceover audio could become significantly quieter than other in-game audio after navigating through the pause menu tabs.
  • Made various visual adjustments in Velen, including tweaks to Bloom, vegetation lighting, saturation, and Path Tracing lighting.
  • Reverted a change that caused significant performance and visual issues with HairWorks enabled for some users.
  • Fixed an issue where marketing telemetry settings weren’t saved properly.
  • Fixed an issue on GOG where achievements wouldn’t appear in the unlocked list after being earned.
  • Fixed an issue where it wasn’t possible to launch the Classic (1.32) version of the game.
  • Once again, thank you for your patience as we continue investigating the issues you report.

Yesterday, CD Projekt Red released another Witcher 3 hotfix patch more angled at consoles that also made “various lighting adjustments”, among a couple of other things.

The Witcher 3 Remastered update was released at the beginning of the week and it makes significant changes to many areas of the game, visually reworking it, improving animations, and altering enemy behaviour and the game’s skill tree. It’s an extraordinarily generous thing for CD Projekt Red to do, I wrote after playing The Witcher 3 Remastered, especially for free so many years after the game was released.
