Everything Coming to Netflix in August 2026

Netflix in August is full-tilt franchise fever. From the Fast and Furious flicks to the Child’s Play/Chucky saga to both Speeds, The Hitman’s Bodyguards, and…um, Daddy Day Cares. There’s also some excellent cinema in the form of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Eighth Grade, Ingrid Goes West, Nightcrawler, and Swiss Army Man.

Plus, two Netflix Original movies of the spooky variety: The Last House with Greta Lee and The Whisper Man with Adam Scott and Robert De Niro. Horror is having quite the summer at the multiplex, so will this translate over to the streaming set?

So while you ponder the how/why/who of Netflix raising its prices once again, here’s a rundown of every series, special, movie, and doc landing on Netflix in August…

Ingrid Goes West – August 2

Aubrey Plaza plays an unbalanced, obsessed fan in the parasocial nightmare that is Ingrid Goes West, a dark comedy that explores the nasty pitfalls of turning oneself into a “brand.” Elizabeth Olsen, Wyatt Russell, Pom Klementieff (hey, three MCU’ers!), and O’Shea Jackson Jr. co-star in this biting, surprisingly funny fable.

Eighth Grade – August 3

Eighth grade? What’s next? Ninth grade? This world is a prison.

In the midst of directing stand-up specials for the likes of Chris Rock and Jerrod Carmichael, and creating his own superb content with Inside, comedian Bo Burnham wrote and directed his first feature film, Eighth Grade. Keeping with the themes of the last recommendation, Ingrid Goes West, and how social media can foster unhealthy fixations and ideals, Eighth Grade follows a middle-schooler (Elsie Fisher of Castle Rock and The Bear) as she attempts to navigate the landmines of the internet and peer pressure. It’s an authentic, sweet, and searing story about the modern tools and tech that can isolate us.

The Last House – August 7

The Last House family, trapped inside the modern streaming era of having bad lighting and little color.

The Last House stars Greta Lee (Past Lives, The Studio) and Wagner Moura (Narcos, The Secret Agent) as a married couple with kids who suddenly become sealed inside their home. Louis Leterrier (Fast X, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance) directs this paranormal mystery thriller.

Ricky Gervais Alley Cats – August 7

They happen to hate lasanga and love Mondays, thank you very much.

Written by, and starring, Ricky Gervais, Alley Cats is six-part adult animated series which follows foul-mouthed felines who ruminate on life, death, and the absurdity of their existence. Drawing inspiration from iconic shows like Cheers and Only Fools and Horses, Gervais wanted to make a classic British sitcom that reflected his love for, and fascination with, cats. Diane Morgan (Philomena Cunk herself!) and Tom Basden (The Ballad of Wallis Island) co-star.

Don’t Say Good Luck – August 14

Oh no, Sunny Sandler and Melanie Lynskey are trapped in The Last House too!

In the coming-of-age dramedy Don’t Say Good Luck, Sophie (Sunny Sandler) is ready for the spotlight as the lead in her high school musical when she becomes overwhelmed with family drama at home. Co-produced by Adam Sandler, Don’t Say Good Luck also stars Melanie Lynskey (Yellowjackets), Max Greenfield (New Girl), Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Bebe Neuwirth (Cheers), and Steve Buscemi.

Swiss Army Man – August 28

Before the Daniels (Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan) cleaned up at the Oscars with Everything Everywhere All at Once, the directing duo gifted us with surreal dramedy Swiss Army Man, starring Paul Dano as a dude stranded on an island and Danielle Radcliffe (displaying his “I’ll do whatever project I wanna do” post-Potter career in its most pure form) as a corpse used in various cartoonish ways to survive the elements. It’s wacky and delightful and full of fart… er, heart!

The Whisper Man – August 28

Starring Adam Scott, Robert De Niro, and Michelle Monaghan, The Whisper Man follows a widowed novelist whose son gets kidnapped, and who must turn to his retired police detective father for help. Based on the bestselling novel by Alex North, The Whisper Man also features Michael Keaton, John Carroll Lynch (Zodiac, Fargo), and Hamish Linklater (Midnight Mass, Widow’s Bay).
