We might learn more about Dragon Quest 12 before the end of the month

Yuji Horii, the creator of Square Enix’s RPG franchise Dragon Quest, just accidentally revealed when fans will learn more about the next games in the series.

On a now-delisted episode of the KosoKoso broadcast, Horii teased an upcoming livestream for the Dragon Quest series in which new games would be discussed. Gematsu translated his comments. “We’ll be doing a live stream on May 27. I think we’ll be able to make an announcement about the next game,” Horii stated. “We’ll also have various other things besides the next game, so please look forward to it.”

The fact that the KosoKoso video has since been taken down suggests that Horii said something he was not supposed to, spoiling a surprise for Dragon Quest fans. Still, fans of the RPG series should be excited that we may soon learn more about games like Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate.

Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate was first teased in a 2021 livestream celebrating the series’ 35th anniversary. Square Enix has rarely discussed the game since then, so a 40th-anniversary presentation seems like the perfect place for Dragon Quest 12 to reemerge after five years of speculation.

Thankfully, Dragon Quest fans haven’t been starved for games over the past half-decade. The first three Dragon Quest games all received HD-2D remakes, while Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined remade the PlayStation RPG in a different style earlier this year. Spin-offs like Dragon Quest Treasures, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, and Infinity Strash: Dragon Quest – The Adventure of Dai have also kept fans occupied.

With less than three weeks to go until Dragon Quest’s 40th anniversary, Square Enix will have to confirm whether what Yuji Horii said was accurate sooner rather than later. Even if that doesn’t materialize, fans can celebrate the fact that the first Dragon Quest has just been inducted into the World Video Game Hall of Fame and continue to wait for a Dragon Quest 12-related announcement.
