Deloitte UK Appoints Debapratim De as Chief Economist

Debapratim De, former director of economic research, has been promoted to chief economist at Deloitte UK, succeeding Ian Stewart, who retires after nearly two decades in the role.

Having joined the firm 16 years ago as an economist, Debo has significantly contributed to Deloitte’s macroeconomic strategies, most recently as the director of economic research.

In his new position, De will take over from Ian Stewart, who is retiring after 19 years of service in the chief economist role. De is expected to bring fresh insights into the evolving global economy, focusing on the impacts of geopolitics, artificial intelligence, and energy markets, which are critical as businesses navigate through transformative changes.

Expressing his excitement about the role, Debapratim De stated, “I’m looking forward to helping our clients navigate major structural and cyclical shifts in the economy during this period of uncertainty. It’s an honor to lead such an exceptional team of economists at Deloitte. Exploring the transformation of the world economy is both challenging and rewarding.”

De’s depth of expertise will support the firm’s commitment to providing insightful economic analysis and will help address the evolving challenges faced by clients in various sectors.
