Stieg Larsson’s 2005 novel ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ has quite the storied adaptation history. It was brought to screens in a trilogy of movies starring Noomi Rapace (which also became a miniseries) and went big budget Hollywood via the David Fincher film in 2011.
Now the small screen beckons again as Deadline reports that UK channel Sky is adapting it once again, this time starring David Oyelowo (‘Lawmen: Bass Reeves’) and Viola Prettejohn (‘The Crown.’)

Oyelowo will play journalist Mikael Blomkvist, while Prettejohn is hacker Lisbeth Salander, the “Girl” of the title.

What’s the story of ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’?

Larson’s novel follows canceled star journalist Blomkvist and uncompromising hacker Salander as they investigate the disappearance of Harriet Vanger, who vanished more than three decades ago from the secluded island home of one of Sweden’s most powerful industrial dynasties.
As they delve deeper into the Vanger family’s buried past, their investigation draws them closer to a chilling threat unfolding dangerously close to them in the present…
The new version of the story, from writers Amanda Coe, Steve Lightfoot and Angela LaManna will include the wider Vanger family and explore them in more depth than the movies. Filming begins in Lithuania next month.

Oyelowo, most recently seen in Apple TV series ‘Government Cheese’ and movie thriller ‘Newborn’ has a few projects on the way, including a fresh cinematic take on ‘Othello’ and a new TV version of ‘Treasure Island,’ which will see him playing Long John Silver.
