Cyber Knights: Flashpoint’s latest update lets you two-time a pair of warring factions or ignore them completely

Don’t you just love the smell of free stuff in the morning? That’s exactly what developer Trese Brothers is offering up with the latest update for Cyber Knights: Flashpoint. The new update for the RPG is more of a wholesale expansion, or a new era as the devs describe it, called Ward War. It’s all about territorial disputes, leaving you with the choice to pick a side, pick both sides, or just fob it off for something else entirely.

Here’s some of the setdressing for the update: a decade prior to the events of the game, various wards were set up in New Boston complete with huge amounts of housing and protections bringing in plenty of new inhabitants. Skip forward to the present day, and the milsec faction Brave Star and the street gang Los Zagales are having a bit of a spat over who gets to control wards four and seven.

This is where you come into it. Your contacts for the two factions will be hitting you up “constantly,” as they’re both aiming to reach a 100% score over the two wards. “The conflict and events will move on its own, raising the score if you aren’t getting involved,” explains a Steam blog post. “Whenever you do get involved by running a job or legwork, you’ll help tip the scores for the Factions one way or another, steadily pushing someone toward a winning 100%.” You’ll get good money for taking part, though there are risks to consider and consequences to deal with depending on who you side with.

In terms of how this all affects you moment to moment, both factions can offer your four new legworks tied to the Ward War. They can both also offer for new proc-gen mission objectives “where you’re thrust right into the conflict, often in full battle mode and on the clock.” Ward 4 will also be quite a dangerous place to explore as Brave Star have full control with their scout hovers and armored transports. Supporting one side enough can open up a Shadow Site mission against the other, offering some strong rewards too.

Sounds like a pretty in-depth free expansion! And a good edition to a game that Nic already liked quite a bit. You can pick it up on Steam, currently discounted, right now.
