Could Switch 2’s The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake be squaring up for a GTA 6 head-to-head? Newly sighted amiibo suggest a potential November release

It looks like Nintendo could be priming its The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for a November release – just ahead of GTA 6’s highly anticipated arrival – if speculation around a pair of newly sighted amiibo is to be believed.

Nintendo finally announced its much-rumoured Ocarina of Time remake back in June, but details were slight. We got a brief teaser, no gameplay details, and no release date beyond “2026”. However, keen-eyed internet observers are now speculating the remake might be launching on Thursday, 12th November following the discovery of official listings for two new amiibo – Sword Kirby and Dragoon and Noir Dedede – set to arrive the same day.

What, you might be wondering, have two non-Zelda-themed amiibo got to do with Ocarina of Time? Well, it seems Nintendo has historically released new amiibo – even unrelated ones – at the same time as its games, likely for logistical reasons relating to physical shipping to stores. “For context”, one post on Reddit explained amid the sightings, “the Mineru’s Construct amiibo had its date announced before Fortune’s Weave; Meta Knight and Shadow Star had its date announced before Pokopia, and Dedede and Tank Star had its date announced before Rhythm Heaven Groove.”

Sword Kirby and Dragoon and Noir Dedede, to add the final link in the speculative chain, both appeared on Nintendo’s official store stamped with a 12th November release date, but – with their discovery now making headlines – the listings have since been pulled. Suspicious? Perhaps!

A 12th November release date would, of course, make Nintendo’s Ocarina of Time remake one of the few games launching in a month in which most titles (Barbie Rewind aside) have feared to tread, as they determinedly avoid GTA 6 – a game expected to dominate when it arrives on 19th November. And while GTA 6 obviously isn’t launching on Switch 2, meaning any competition would be indirect, it’s still more evidence that Link’s bravery truly knows no bounds.
