“That’s my ride,” exclaimed Este Haim as she and her sisters Danielle and Alana arrived on the set of the Louis Vuitton show Tuesday evening, where front-row guests included Zendaya, Emma Stone, Felix from Stray Kids, Pharrell Williams, Jaden Smith and Catherine Deneuve, as well as France’s first lady Brigitte Macron, to name but a few.
Complete with a tarmac road and Space Age cars, Nicolas Ghesquière had turned the Cour Carrée of the Louvre into a retro-futurist racing track for his spring show, the vehicles’ headlights shining as the sun went down over the event’s finale.
“This is the greatest set, I wanna take it home with me in my luggage,” said Este Haim. “Every year we say this is the craziest set we’ve ever seen, and then it keeps getting crazier,” her sister Alana Haim enthused.
Back home in Los Angeles, the musical sibling sisters are used to more everyday vehicles. “Of course we drive, we’re from L.A.,” they quipped in unison, dressed for the occasion in ’60s inspired leather ensembles.
Despite her lighter look — she was wearing a white tank under her semi-transparent ruffled jacket — Zendaya was feeling the heat of the unseasonably warm October evening. “It’s so hot,” she said, flapping her collar for air as the crowds pressed in around her and stylist Law Roach.
Stone, in a royal blue skirt suit, posed for pictures before stopping to chat happily with the Haim sisters, with Este Haim breaking into song.
Chloë Grace Moretz’s sculptural collar from the label’s cruise collection matched the green of the cars on the runway. Admiring the vehicles, she admitted to being a bit of a speed freak. “I love cars, I know how to drift, and motorcycles,” confided the actress, who just wrapped filming action comedy “Mister” with Walton Goggins.
Other guests were less comfortable behind the wheel. “I’m terrified of driving,” admitted Anna Lambe, who was sporting an allover black leather look for the occasion. “There’s so much responsibility.” The Canadian Inuk actress, who recently starred in “Heart of the Beast” alongside Brad Pitt and legal thriller “The Social Reckoning,” out later this week, has had a busy schedule lately. “It’s been back-to-back-to-back-to-back projects,” she said. Up next, she is hoping “North of North” will be renewed for a third season. “It’s my pride and joy, the dream of my heart. It fulfills me in a way no other project does,” she said.
French actress Noémie Merlant, who plays Fantine in Fred Cavayé’s new adaptation of “Les Misérables” out later this month, has only just passed her license exam. “I’m a new driver,” she said. No Space Age vehicles for her. “I drive an easy SUV, because I have a family and two dogs and I need space,” she said.
