PARIS – A gathering was held in Paris on Tuesday afternoon to celebrate 15 years of the “Brands With a Mission” event, hosted by Karine Ohana and Susan Rockefeller.
Dozens of attendees from around the globe gathered in the Paris headquarters of Ohana & Co., which Ohana runs with her brothers Ariel and Laurent.
“In life, you have to do meaningful things,” Karine Ohana said. That’s for oneself, the next generation and the environment, she continued, adding at the outset “Brands With a Mission” was a dream that has become concrete and of the moment.
“Today, if you are not a brand with a mission, you have no reason to exist,” Ohana said.
“We are at a real inflection point, especially if we think geopolitically about what’s happening with supply-chain issues,” Rockefeller said. “People are thinking: ‘What can we do to make a difference in our own lives?’ And also: ‘What kind of future do we want to imagine for ourselves, our children and our grandchildren?’”
“Brands With a Mission” began with a focus on sustainability and looks at innovative changes necessary in terms of ecosystem and closed-loop manufacturing, for instance.
“The essence of what we’re trying to do is really connect people, let people network, and find a common vision and common ground,” Rockefeller said. “We can’t just be one trying to make a difference. We have to work in community and work together. That’s one of the things I love most working with Karine.”
Rockefeller and Ohana have held events in Los Angeles, as well as in New York and Paris. “It’s been growing in a very beautiful and also impactful way,” Rockefeller said.
Panels at the event featured Alexandre Pagliano, managing director, global head of acquisitions, external growth and corporate intelligence at L’Oréal; Shaina Rainford, founder and chief executive officer of Bask & Lather Co.; Lucy Goff, founder and CEO of Lyma, and Julian Bedel, founder and perfumer of Fueguia 1833.
