Bonnie Crombie to run for mayor of Mississauga, Ont., vying for her old job

After a short stint leading the Ontario Liberals, Bonnie Crombie is looking to get her old job back as mayor of Mississauga, Ont.

Crombie wrote to supporters in a message obtained by The Canadian Press that she intends to register as a mayoral candidate on Tuesday.

She will be up against incumbent mayor Carolyn Parrish, as well as other candidates that include city councillors Alvin Tedjo and Dipika Damerla.

Crombie served as Mississauga’s mayor for a decade before leaving midway through her third term in 2024 to lead the Ontario Liberals.

She stepped down from that role early this year following lukewarm support in a vote at the party’s 2025 annual general meeting, after a snap provincial election that saw Crombie fail to win a seat in the legislature.

Crombie first entered politics at age 47 after a long business career and has also served as a Liberal MP and Mississauga city councillor.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published July 12, 2026.
