American Airlines Reveals New 7-Hour Nonstop Route: See Map Now

American Airlines is the world’s largest operator in various ways. In the latest schedule update, the oneworld member revealed that it’ll fly between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA). It’ll now be one of four airlines with nonstop flights.

Each week, airlines from around the world submit schedule changes to platforms like Cirium Diio. The changes could include many things, such as new routes, eliminated markets, higher or lower frequencies or seats per route, equipment swaps, and so on. It is worth exploring American’s addition.

Cirium shows that American will lift off from JFK for SEA on April 2, 2027, just after Easter celebrations end. It’ll serve the market twice daily using the 196-seat Airbus A321neo. Ch-aviation shows that the carrier has 75 aircraft with that many seats. 20 seats are in domestic first (2-2; 36.5″), 35 are in main cabin extra (3-3; 33″ pitch), and 141 in regular economy (3-3; only 30″).

American previously flew the long transcontinental market for years. The US Department of Transportation (DOT) shows that it did so between 1992 and 2019. The Boeing 757 and 767 (both of which have been removed from the airline’s fleet), along with the 737-800, were primarily used. When flights return after an eight-year absence, Airbus equipment will be deployed for the first time.

As the schedule shows, one of the departures back to the Big Apple will be overnight. Given the length of the haul and the time zone changes, that’s unsurprising. Nonetheless, the carrier last had red-eye service to JFK in 2018, not in 2019, when the route was removed.

Between 2004 and 2019, only 7% of services were twice a day or more. However, American had a record three daily departures between early July and early September 2018.

Second-Highest Flights Ever In The Peak Summer

In the 12 months to June 2026, the US DOT shows a total of 691,655 passengers flew between JFK and SEA, whether they did so on a nonstop basis (98.5% of people) or from connecting en route (just 1.5%). When Newark and New York LGA are included, the city-level market had 1,317,409 passengers (3,600+ daily). American transported just 0.6% of the JFK-SEA traffic, down from 14.6% in 2018, for example, when it flew nonstop.

Let’s look ahead to July 2027. In that peak summer month, 11 daily departures are now available, which is the second-highest volume in that specific month ever. The only July with more services was in 2018, when up to 14 daily services existed. 63,860 one-way seats will now be available, beaten only by July 2018 (66,746).

The following table provides a snapshot of the airport pair’s activity on the randomly chosen Tuesday, July 13, 2027. Only narrowbody jets currently serve the market. The last semiregular widebody operation was in 2023, when Delta Air Lines variously deployed the Airbus A330-900, Boeing 767-300ER, and 767-400ER between its two hubs. The most twin-aisle flights in the past two decades was in 2017.

The increasingly close partners, American and Alaska Airlines, will now have 55% of the nonstop services. Obviously, SEA is Alaska’s top hub. Notice JetBlue, which only has a daily operation, with 9% of flights. That carrier, which has been undergoing many changes, last had two daily services from JFK to SEA in 2023.

American’s Domestic Routes From New York JFK

Between next April (when flights to SEA will resume) and July, American now plans 25 domestic routes from JFK: Austin; Boston; Bozeman; Charlotte; Chicago O’Hare; Cincinnati; Cleveland; Columbus; Dallas/Fort Worth; Indianapolis; Jackson Hole; Las Vegas; Los Angeles; Miami; Nashville; Norfolk; Orange County; Phoenix; Pittsburgh; Raleigh/Durham; San Francisco; St. Thomas (a US territory); SEA; Vail; and Washington National.

With an average of 72 daily departures, American will be the third-largest domestic operator at JFK in that period. Delta will remain comfortably first (165 daily domestic departures on 54 routes), followed by JetBlue (98 daily flights; 44 routes).

American’s offering will be up by 5% compared to April-July 2025. Also influencing the growth is Bozeman, which is a new route for the carrier, which will launch on July 18, 2027 (four weekly 737 MAX 8). It’ll replace service from New York LaGuardia.
