Adidas and David Beckham on Tuesday unveiled a special edition Predator boot to mark the 25th anniversary of the soccer icon’s free kick against Greece that secured England’s place at the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
“Few moments in history capture the spirit of Predator quite like [this moment]. It showcased the precision, confidence and control that have defined both Beckham’s legacy and the Predator franchise for more than three decades,” Sam Handy, general manager, Adidas football, said. “With this special edition release, we wanted to honor that moment through a design that combines authentic football heritage, premium craftsmanship and modern performance innovation.”
Co-designed with Beckham, the special edition David Beckham Predator draws inspiration from the colorway worn on Oct. 6, 2001. The boot, in white and red, includes the Trefoil logo, which is appearing for only the second time in Predator history. Adidas noted that it was featured in Beckham’s debut special edition Predator that was released in 2024 and was sold out within 24 hours. The Trefoil has since become synonymous with David Beckham Predator models, which Adidas said creates a “distinctive bridge between Adidas Originals heritage and one of football’s most iconic boot franchises.
The Trefoil influence extends throughout the design, with both the lateral and medial three stripes filled with repeated Trefoil branding that also creates a subtle premium detail. Other special touches include Beckham branding on the lateral heel and a Trefoil logo embroidered over the fold-over tongue.
The limited edition boot was also inspired by the German sportswear and shoe brand’s latest Predator Elite FT L-Tech concept, as it pairs traditional leather craftsmanship with modern performance innovation. The boot also features a premium leather forefoot, providing a soft touch and comfort, while retaining the lightweight support and performance technologies of the modern Predator. And the design incorporates the signature fold-over tongue that’s finished in rich red leather for a premium look and feel.
In addition to the David Beckham Predator, Adidas is also introducing a reimagined version of the Predator Precision worn by Beckham on Oct. 6, 2001, in the recognizable white and red colorway. Both boots are available at select Adidas stores and on adidas.com/football.
Adidas has had a big presence on the soccer field over the years. This year, Lionel Messi scored his 17th World Cup goal, making him the all-time leading scorer in the history of the tournament, while wearing his signature Adidas F50 Messi Elite El Último Tango boot.
The sportswear and footwear brand last month held its Innovation Day, which showcased what’s new and upcoming in its shoe pipeline. Moreover, analysts also favored the brand’s local-for-local market approach, where 90 percent of the sourcing is done locally and what is believed to be the key to unlocking growth potential for Adidas. And just last month, Adidas innovated with an extension of the Adidas Evo SL universe that now includes the Adidas Evo SL Laceless shoe, the seventh spinoff of the running shoe. Available overseas, a U.S. release of the new Laceless shoe is expected shortly.
