Tekken 8’s Reina Teased as the Next Guest Character for Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves

Reina, who made her debut in Tekken 8, is coming to Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. The announcement comes from a short teaser trailer from SNK Official.

The Tekken fighter joins the City of the Wolves roster as a playable character, joining other guest characters such as Street Fighter’s Chun-Li, Fist of the North Star’s Kenshiro, and soccer star Christiano Ronaldo. Reina is believed to be the daughter of Heihachi Mishima, a guy with a penchant for chucking his kids into volcanos. It’s no wonder she’s looking for somewhere else to live.

Tekken 7 previously featured Geese Howard, one of the primary antagonists of Fatal Fury, as a guest character, so it’s nice to see Bandai Namco paying the favor back. Fatal Fury has gone a bit ham with the guest characters, but this one definitely makes more sense than that soccer player who dives for a living.

The trailer doesn’t give much away, but it’ll be interesting to see how Reina’s Mishima School fighting style gets translated into Fatal Fury. This announcement nips the heels of the Manjiro Sano and Ken Ryuguji (Season Pass 3 – fourth DLC character) trailers, also released today. Both Sano and Ryuguji, who originate from manga series Tokyo Revengers, arrive in South Town on October 22.

Reina is expected to hit City of the Wolves in December, after Laocorn is released in November. Reina also continues City of the Wolves’ guest DLC character run after Sano’s announcement sparked a debate in the Fatal Fury community about guest fighters.

IGN’s Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves review called it “a wonderful update to the classic SNK style of one-on-one combat that feels similar to Street Fighter 6, but just different enough to exist as an alternative to it.”

Eagle-eyed players had already predicted the inclusion of Reina, noting the purple color of Season 3 fitted with the character’s aesthetic. In the teaser trailer, she appears only as a silhouette in the background.

Reina is considered a hard character to master in Tekken 8, thanks to her diverse moveset and her weak lows. Advanced players make up for it by utilizing her unbreakable throws and stance changes.

The character’s pick rate in Tekken 8 Ranked is 3.1% and she has a 46% win rate. It remains to be seen whether she’s as deep and divisive in City of the Wolves.
