United Airlines Launches 10 Major New Nonstop Routes This Month: See List Now

United Airlines is the world’s second-largest operator for aircraft movements. According to OAG data for October, the Star Alliance member has 4,859 daily takeoffs/landings, involving more than 360 airports globally. United flies to more places than any other scheduled passenger operator.

In this autumn month, United will introduce or resume ten routes from seven hubs around the US. It is always good to see services commencing from multiple hubs. The airline’s top hub for movements, Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD), will welcome three links, including the sole long-haul service.

The following table shows that nearly all the upcoming links will begin on or around Sunday, October 25. That’s because United, like other carriers from the Northern Hemisphere, will switch to winter schedules on that day, which is based on IATA slot seasons. It is usual for routes to take off around the switchover date.

Half of the routes have not previously seen United or United Express, with brand-new markets in an airline’s network always particularly noteworthy. They include the two links to Owensboro, Kentucky, to which the carrier has not flown before, at least not since 1990.

Moreover, when all airlines are considered, Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) has never had service to Owensboro. ORD has with Contour, but that airline pulled out last month, hence United Express’ arrival. The route is subsidized by the Essential Air Service.

Some markets return having last been served by a different airline many years ago. For example, American Eagle flew between ORD and Shreveport, Louisiana, until 2008. Meanwhile, Continental was the last carrier to operate from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to St. Croix, in the US Virgin Islands, all the way back in 1994.

Shreveport Will Be United’s New Longest CRJ200 Route From Chicago

Single-class, all-economy, 50-seat regional jets usually elicit comments from passengers, and rarely in a good way. The Bombardier CRJ200, once commonplace in the US, epitomizes this. It is small, cramped, and has a low ceiling, none of which is conducive to a comfortable trip. They’re also renowned for having very high seat-mile costs and being poor economically, offset by being paid off or otherwise having very low ownership costs.

The comfort problem is somewhat less relevant as the equipment is, of course, usually deployed on short hops. Between now and January 2027, United Express’ average CRJ200 route (all of which are flown by SkyWest) across the US will cover just 256 nautical miles (474 km). Flights on the small RJ from ORD will cover very marginally more ground.

United Express will fly the variant on 54 routes from ORD. Come January 5, the list will include Shreveport, which will have the dubious honor of becoming the carrier’s new longest CRJ200 market from ORD. Flights will cover 637 nautical miles (1,180 km) each way and be blocked at up to two hours and 40 minutes. Would you fancy that?

United Has The Most Routes From Denver

In October, DEN is United’s second-largest hub for aircraft movements (behind ORD) and seats for sale (after ORD), while it ranks fourth for available seat miles (behind SFO, EWR, and ORD). However, it beats them all for the number of nonstop routes. 197 links are available this month, three more than from ORD.

DEN’s network in October comprises 174 domestic markets, with the 23 international routes being within 12 countries. Intra-US operations account for 97% of the total movements. 47 states and US territories in the Caribbean are served, including Utah. Influenced by the relaunch of flights to Moab, services from DEN to the Beehive State have grown by a considerable 16% year-over-year.
