WestJet is Canada’s second-largest airline. Like all operators, its network changes. All airlines have route churn, and all carriers remove airports from their map, whether due to insufficient financial or network performance, because of external reasons, or otherwise.
WestJet has recently stopped flying to 13 international destinations, as discussed in this article. It has also recently ceased serving two domestic airports: Lethbridge and the marvelously named Medicine Hat, both in Alberta. WestJet Encore’s final departure to both places was in June 2026.
WestJet Has Pulled Out Of These Long-Haul Destinations
Last week, WestJet disclosed that it would end three European routes, citing, in part, the increased fuel price. It is likely that the performance was not good in the first place and that the higher cost either provided a good reason for ending them or pushed the performance even further into the red. It came as Icelandair disclosed the cessation of a route to Canada.
WestJet has thus pulled out of the following places, all of which had only just welcomed the airline or celebrated its return. Glasgow International Airport is particularly interesting. WestJet originally flew there in May 2015, becoming its second European destination after Dublin (flights started in May 2014).
GLA was originally served from
Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) via Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ), with that setup continuing until October 2018. It did not fly to GLA between 2019 and 2021. WestJet’s inaugural nonstop YYZ-GLA flight took place in May 2022, which only existed for one season. They returned in May 2026 and lasted for one season. The airline continues to fly to Edinburgh, which is only an hour or so from GLA.

Ten Airports In The Caribbean, Mexico & The US No Longer See WestJet
They are summarized below, all of which stopped seeing the carrier in 2026. Inevitably, some of the destinations were flown from Calgary International Airport (YYC), Montréal Trudeau International Airport (YUL), Vancouver International Airport (YVR), YYZ, and — in some cases — various significantly smaller places.
Seven of the eliminated markets are in Cuba, as WestJet has entirely pulled out of the country. Air Canada and Air Transat have too. Cuba has been a hugely popular destination for Canadian package vacations for years. However, high-profile power outages, fuel shortages, food scarcity, and transportation disruptions all led to the suspension of services earlier this year.
Flights will return to the Caribbean nation, but it is not clear when. As such, the number of visitors to other hot-weather places, like the Dominican Republic and Mexico, has consequently grown. When all airlines are considered, Cirium Diio data shows that there are far more flights from Canada to those places in 2026 than in any prior year.

WestJet From Calgary To Guadalajara
The first-ever nonstop passenger service from Calgary (and Alberta) to the large Mexican city took place on December 7, 2025. WestJet initially flew on Tuesdays and Sundays, but the route fell to a Sunday-only operation during the summer. This coincided with the extended schedule. Booking data shows that most people only flew between YYC and Guadalajara International Airport (GDL).
The final departure is set for October 18. On that day, the 174-seat Boeing 737-800 will be flown. WS2278 will leave YYC at 9:20 AM and arrive in Mexico at 2:35 PM. Returning, WS2279 will leave at 3:25 PM and arrive at 8:35 PM. No flights are bookable through next August, which is as far as the airline’s schedule extends.
