New York City Hyatt showdown video: Is paying more worth it?

At TPG, we’re all big fans of Hyatt and the World of Hyatt loyalty program. But we also know that not all Hyatts are the same, especially considering that there are over 30 brands ranging from affordable to all-out luxury.

With that in mind, we sent our resident New Yorker and video superstar, Bella Boccasino, to compare three different Hyatt brands across three different price points in Manhattan: roughly $250, $500 and $1,000 a night, for cash prices. Over the course of a few nights, Bella checked into the Hyatt Place in Chelsea, The Standard Highline in the Meatpacking District and the Park Hyatt New York, one of the most luxurious hotels in Manhattan.

But since it’s TPG, we didn’t send her just to check in for a place to crash; we put each hotel to the test to see how much value you really get for the money (or the points!), by comparing everything from Wi-Fi speeds to gym equipment, breakfast offerings to room service speed, the views, the service and even how good their cookies are.

What did we learn? Well, each hotel has it’s own pros and cons and serves a different purpose: the Hyatt Place is an affordable (for NYC standards) place to stay that packs a great little punch for the price; The Standard Highline is a buzzy spot ideal for socializing; and Park Hyatt has amenities worthy of the high price tag (catch Bella at the indoor pool with stunning city views).

But to get the real nitty-gritty details, including a stopwatch test for room service — and explanations about what went right and what didn’t — you’ll have to check out Bella’s full experience in the video.

And if you find yourself wanting more New York hotels, we’ve got our list of the best, a comparison video of two of our favorite hotels in NoMad and our explainer of all the various Hyatt brands.
