Yesterday, the Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, Lê Hoài Trung, to elevate bilateral relations and discuss the importance of cooperation in the Indo-Pacific.
The ministers discussed the new Canada-Vietnam Strategic Partnership, which will deepen cooperation, including enhanced cooperation on political and security issues, advance trade and investment, and strengthen bilateral and multilateral collaboration and people-to-people ties. This partnership marks a milestone in the Canada-Vietnam relationship and builds on over fifty years of diplomatic ties.
The ministers also discussed the strong progress toward an ASEAN-Canada Free Trade Agreement. Minister Anand highlighted that deepening trade ties will create new opportunities for Canadian workers and businesses in one of the world’s fastest-growing regions and support Canada’s broader engagement across the Indo-Pacific.
