As all best friends do, Gayle King and Oprah Winfrey went for a matching footwear moment while in attendance at the premiere of “Everest: The Other Side” on Sept. 5 in Telluride, Colo. The documentary follows elite mountaineers Jim Morrison and Hilaree Nelson as they try to climb and ski the direct north face of Mount Everest.

King and Winfrey’s twin moment consisted of calf-length tan suede booties, the style comparable to silhouettes from Frye. King’s pair were a cowboy style with angular pointed toes and a lighter suede finish that transitioned into short block heels. Winfrey’s boots were a darker tan suede with rounded elongated toes and short block heels. Both pairs were wise choices for the colder Telluride weather, keeping both parties’ feet warm and dry, protected from the elements.

Both boots were similar to Frye’s Tan Buck Campus 12R suede boots, a utilitarian style with textural uppers. Regardless of brand, silhouettes like these were once worn for work purposes. Tending to crops, riding horses and working the land, these work boots were worn by farmers and cowboys alike. Suede styles were made for abrasive climates, hailed for their comfort and flexibility. Suede is also extremely breathable, keeping feet from sweating while working hard. The textured uppers also mask the look of scratches and scuffs.

As for ensembles, both parties opted for comfort and style. King donned a dark-wash denim dress with a zip-up bodice layered over a tan turtleneck. Winfrey wore an all-white outfit consisting of a tweed jacket layered over a white tee, which was tucked into matching pants. The former talk show host also wore sunglasses with gradient lenses. King and Winfrey have been friends for over 50 years. Like their friendship, their footwear game is often perfect together, consisting of colorful moments that complement one another.

King is a colorful dresser, often seen in vibrant sneakers or heels from brands like Chloe, Ralph Lauren or Sneex. Winfrey has a more subdued take on footwear, her choices consisting of neutral tones with the occasional leopard or snakeskin. Some of her favorite brands include Christian Louboutin, Jimmy Choo, Valentino and Manolo Blahnik. For less formal events, Winfrey likes sneakers from Vivaia and Brooks.
