Statement by Minister Anand on the Israeli-Palestinian situation

July 28, 2025 – Ottawa, Ontario – Global Affairs Canada

The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs, issued the following statement:

“Canada notes the Israeli government’s decision to unblock aid so it can enter Gaza.

“This is the right step in the right direction that will bring much-needed relief to Palestinian civilians. However, Canada urges the Israeli government to allow the sustained and large-scale delivery of UN-led humanitarian aid—and make this humanitarian access permanent.

“On July 25, 2025, I spoke with Israel’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Gideon Sa’ar, to seek assurances that trucks carrying Canadian aid would be allowed to enter Gaza.

“I also spoke with Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ayman Safadi, to assure him of Canada’s support of the Jordanian humanitarian corridor to transfer this aid. In total, Canada has committed more than $315 million of humanitarian aid since the beginning of the crisis.

“Canada thanks Jordan for allowing us to pre-position our aid there until such time that the Israeli government will permit it to enter Gaza. Canada will continue to play a leading role with international partners that contribute to humanitarian efforts, so that aid continues to reach those who need it.

“This war must end. The parties must work towards an immediate ceasefire, and Hamas must release all of the hostages.”
