Elon Musk readies major midterm investment for Republicans ahead of November: Sources

Tech billionaire Elon Musk is getting ready to play in this year’s midterm elections, with an investment plan to help strengthen GOP turnout in the lead-up to November through his aligned super PAC, America PAC, a source familiar with the plan confirmed to ABC News.

America PAC will focus on door-knocking, digital advertising and direct mail aimed at Republican-leaning voters, including low-propensity voters who typically don’t vote in midterm elections, the source told ABC News.

The source could not confirm exactly how much Musk would invest in the midterms and in which states, but it is expected to be a high number.

The New York Times reported Thursday that Musk has authorized his super PAC to spend $100 million to $120 million on a new field program in several states to help elect Republicans in November. The Times reported that Musk’s group plans to spend in the following Senate races: Alaska, Iowa, Maine, Michigan and Ohio. The group is also reportedly having conversations about spending in the North Carolina and Texas Senate races. America PAC will also coordinate with other groups in the GOP apparatus.

Axios was first to report the news.

Musk’s investment will contribute greatly to an already very well-funded war chest amassed by Republicans in the lead-up to November’s election.

The most recent financial disclosure from the Republican National Committee shows that the organization has just under $130 million in its war chest; meanwhile, MAGA Inc., the organization aligned with Trump, has $400 million — a whopping $530 million combined.

Although Musk has stayed relatively quiet this election cycle, he still contributed to the Wisconsin Supreme Court race and also made a $10 million donation to then-Senate candidate Nate Morris before he suspended his campaign and accepted an ambassadorship position from Trump.

But it was during the 2024 election that Musk flexed his political clout and cash, with America PAC spending more than $250 million to support Trump during his reelection campaign and mobilizing voters in battleground states.

But Musk’s relationship with Trump has not always been good, with the two men having a falling out last year. At one point, Musk even threatened to create a third political party.

During the first year of Trump’s second term, Musk was appointed a “special government employee” to oversee the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), aiming to cut government spending. Following Musk’s leaving the administration in May, he began heavily attacking Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill.

But now, Musk has also been in touch with Trump’s team about how he can help Republicans ahead of the midterm elections, sources say.

“The President’s political team and the rest of the GOP apparatus have built a top notch operation that will put Republicans in a strong position to buck history and retain control of Congress this fall, and we’re excited to again be part of the team.” America PAC spokesperson Andrew Romeo said to ABC News.
