One of the go-to NVMe SSDs for PC and PS5 owners, the 990 Pro is Samsung’s flagship M.2 SSD. It offers impressive performance–with read speeds up to 7,450 MB/s and write speeds up to 6,900 MB/s–and Samsung has a reputation for creating high-end storage solutions. One thing to note is that you will need to purchase a heatsink to go with the SSD, but these are easy to come by and thankfully very cheap.
Amazon is selling versions of this SSD with preinstalled heatsinks, but they are much more expensive, and you’ll save around $100 by purchasing and applying the cooling block yourself.
As a reminder, a heatsink is required to use M.2 SSDs with the PS5 console. PC owners can also benefit from an SSD, whether it’s by quickly adding extra storage capacity or installing games on it that require the extra read/write speeds to function properly.
