Magic’s Marvel Super Heroes set gives an iconic spell a reprint with a catch

Magic: The Gathering is going heroic (and villainous) next week with Marvel Super Heroes, and among the reprints in the set, there’s one that almost snuck past us.

Time Warp, originally printed in Tempest all the way back in 1997, has seen several reprints, including inclusion in the Secrets of Strixhaven Mystical Archive this year, but it’s returning with new Marvel art and some neat Kang the Conqueror flavor text.

“Victory is inevitable. I have all the time in the world,” the card reads now, underneath its familiar text of “Target player takes an extra turn after this one”.

An extra turn is indeed a big problem for opponents, especially if you can bounce it back to your hand from your graveyard with something like Archaeomancer or Mystic Sanctuary, but what’s perhaps most interesting about this incarnation of the iconic card is how you’ll actually be able to get your hands on it.

Although Time Warp is printed as a rare, its placement in the Jumpstart “Kang Dynasty” pack — which is anticipated to be a hard-to-find, mythic-level product — means it may functionally be as rare as a mythic.

According to Wizards of the Coast’s card library, Time Warp can also be found in Collector Boosters (if you’re made of money, that is), the Draft Night box, and the Gift Bundle (again, presumably in the included Collector Boosters in those products).

It’ll also be in the MTG Arena Limited Pack and available as a Wildcard, with Marvel Super Hero cards landing in the digital version of the game and bringing the missing Spider-Man cards with them, too.

While it was easy to be skeptical about the return to the Marvel universe, there are some solid reprints joining Time Warp in the set, which launches next week.

Black Market Connections is in the Doom Prevails precon, Kindred Discovery pops up in Avengers Assemble, and even poison counters are rolling back the years with The Serpent Society.

While Time Warp may not have a steep fee attached to it thanks to those aforementioned reprints, I’d be keen to put it in my Vivi deck to keep bouncing back for a bonus turn here or there.
