Minister Anand to travel to Denmark and Greenland

February 4, 2026 – Ottawa, Ontario – Global Affairs Canada

The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs, will travel to Copenhagen, Denmark, and Nuuk, Greenland, from February 5 to 7, 2026.

During her visit to Copenhagen on February 5, Minister Anand will meet with Lars Løkke Rasmussen, Denmark’s Minister of Foreign Affairs. This meeting will further strengthen Canada and Denmark’s collaboration on their shared responsibility for ensuring the security and resilience of the Arctic.

In Nuuk, from February 6 to 7, Minister Anand will officially open the Canadian consulate, alongside Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada, Carolyn Bennett, Ambassador of Canada to the Kingdom of Denmark, and Virginia Mearns, Canada’s Arctic Ambassador. Establishing the Nuuk consulate was a commitment outlined in Canada’s Arctic Foreign Policy, which was launched in December 2024. The Canadian Coast Guard medium duty icebreaker ship the CCGS Jean Goodwill will be present for the opening of the consulate.

The consulate will offer consular services to Canadians in Greenland, as well as strengthen Canada-Greenland bilateral and commercial relations, grow people-to-people ties and mobility and enhance cooperation on Arctic governance and security.

In Nuuk, Minister Anand will also meet with Vivian Motzfeldt, Greenland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Research, to explore new opportunities for economic cooperation, scientific collaboration and cultural exchange between Canada and Greenland.
