7 Longest Nonstop Flights In The US In 2026

The United States (US) is one of the very few markets around the world where domestic flights can be considered medium-haul or even long-haul, and often see widebody jets deployed on the route, due to both the distance that needs to be covered, but also the capacity.

This list includes seven domestic routes in the US, which have the longest flight times and distances, that are available to customers for booking, during the month of April 2026. Six of these seven airport pairings include Honolulu International Airport (HNL), because Hawaii is geographically located away from the mainland US, which contributes to the extended distance and flight times.

Data from aviation analytics firm Cirium was utilized when forming this list. FlightRadar24 was used to understand information such as operators on route and average flight times. The aeroLOPA database was used to get aircraft seat data.

Chicago And Honolulu

Considering Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) is regarded as the busiest airport in the continent, in terms of number of aircraft movements, it comes as no surprise that there are direct services to HNL. With an average distance of 4,244 miles, this route achieves seventh place on the list.

The two airlines operating and competing on this route are also Chicago’s two largest operators, which are United Airlines and American Airlines. While United deploys its Boeing 787-10 aircraft on this route, American Airlines utilizes the Dreamliner’s smallest variant, the Boeing 787-8. Historic flight data indicates that the westbound flights to Honolulu (AA75 and UA219) have an average flight time of 8.5 hours, while the return services to the east (AA74 and UA218) usually average about 7.5 hours.

Seat data shows that both operators’ aircraft are configured with three cabin classes – business, premium economy, and economy, with American’s 787-8 capable of accommodating 234 passengers, while United’s 787-10 can accommodate 318 passengers. When considering the premium business class cabins, these aircraft feature American’s Flagship Business seats, while United has its Polaris Business product available onboard.

Besides Chicago, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) also has a claim to the title of busiest airport in the US, and, in fact, busiest in the world based on the number of passengers (domestic + international) the airport handles. The airport is home to one of the largest carriers in the country, Delta Air Lines.

At number six on this list, with a distance of 4,431 miles (8,206 km), is the route connecting ATL with Kahului Airport (OGG), based in the Hawaiian city of Kahului. The schedule data available at the time of writing shows that Delta will only operate 137 flights in each direction across 2026, of which 12 (in each direction) are scheduled to be operated during the month of April.

The airline will be deploying its fleet of Airbus A330-300 on this route during its flights this month. While data shows that the same aircraft type is scheduled for all of Delta’s operations on this route this year, last month, the carrier did deploy the newer Airbus A330-900 on two occasions.

Detroit And Honolulu

Delta is the sole operator on this route

With an average westbound flight time of 9.5 hours and the return service lasting an average of eight hours, the flight from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) to HNL claims the spot of the fifth-longest non-stop domestic service in the US. The average distance is 4,475 miles (8,288 km), and the only carrier operating on this route is Delta.

The airline utilizes its fleet of A330-300 on this route, which are configured with three cabin classes and can accommodate up to 282 passengers on board, including 34 passengers in the airline’s premium cabin, which has the airline’s Delta One product.

While the A330-300s are not the airline’s newest or most efficient widebody jets (especially since the airline also operates its NEO version), data published by Cirium indicates that the carrier retrofitted all examples of the type between 2021 and 2023, which indicates the carrier will be utilizing the aircraft type for the foreseeable future.

Another entry, where Delta is the only operator

At number four on this list, with an approximate distance of 4,502 miles (8,338 km), is the ATL and HNL route. Considering Delta is the dominant carrier at Atlanta, it is the only airline serving this route. As before, the airline deploys its A330-300 aircraft on this route.

The carrier’s A330-300s are configured in the following manner:

The airline’s service to HNL (DL837) on average records a flight time of around 9.5 hours, while the return service to ATL (DL309) usually takes around eight hours. Onboard flights this long, passengers would definitely appreciate the additional space available, especially those flying on the Delta Comfort seats.

3

Washington And Honolulu

United is the sole operator on this route

With an approximate distance of 4,817 miles (8,921 km), the route connecting Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Honolulu takes the third spot on this list. United being the only operator on this route is justifiable considering the fact that the airport is one of United’s major hubs in the East.

Considering the distance covered on this transcontinental flight, the service to HNL (UA345) on average has a flight time of 10.25 hours, while the return journey (UA344) sees flight times lasting around nine hours. To serve this route, the airline utilizes its fleet of Boeing 767-400ER aircraft, which are among the oldest widebody aircraft within the airline’s fleet. These aircraft are configured to accommodate up to 231 passengers across three cabin classes, and the aircraft type is also equipped with the airline’s Polaris Business class product.

With the airline planning to retire its aging fleet of 767s by the end of the decade, it is possible that, as more examples of the aircraft type are continued to be phased out, this route will be replaced by newer and more efficient aircraft types. In terms of capacity, the closest replacement would be the 787-8, but the airline does have larger Dreamliner variants available if United wishes to up-gauge the capacity on the route.

Newark And Honolulu

Covering an average distance of 4,962 miles (9,190 km), Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to HNL is the second-longest domestic non-stop flight operating within the US this month. Newark is a United stronghold; the airline is the only operator on this route, operating six flights a week (no flights on Wednesdays).

The carrier deploys its fleet of 767-400ERs on this route, with the average flight time to Hawaii lasting around 10.5 hours, while the return flight is generally completed just under nine hours. The airline has configured its 767-400ER aircraft to accommodate 34 Polaris seats in a 1-1-1 configuration, 24 Premium Plus seats in a 2-2-2 layout, and 173 main cabin seats in a 2-3-2 layout. It is worth noting that 48 of these seats are categorized as United Economy Plus, with additional space available for passengers.

Much like the previous Washington – Honolulu service, the phasing out of the 767s in the coming years will see United also replace the aircraft type on its Newark to Honolulu route eventually. While this has been a long-standing route, data reported by AEROROUTES indicate that the carrier did briefly suspend this service for a period of about two weeks during the spring of 2024.

New York And Honolulu

This route sees competition from two airlines

New York JFK Airport to Honolulu claims the top spot as the longest non-stop domestic flight service within the US, recording an average distance of 4,983 miles (9,229 km), which is only 21 miles more than the EWR-HNL route. This route has two airlines competing, with both carriers operating one flight daily.

The first airline is Delta, and the carrier serves the route using its fleet of Boeing 767-300ER aircraft. While Delta has configured its 767-300ERs with two layouts, the airline deploys its premium-heavy three-class aircraft on this route, with Delta One, Delta Premium Select, and Main Cabins. The second airline is Hawaii’s own Hawaiian Airlines, and the carrier deploys its fleet of Airbus A330-200 aircraft for this long-haul service. These aircraft are configured in a relatively simple manner with only business class and economy cabins. Flights to Hawaii on average last about 10.5 hours, while the return journey to JFK usually records a flight time of around nine hours.

This is a route on which Hawaiian, until September 2025, operated its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. However, this was then changed to the A330-200 when the carrier’s Dreamliners were taken over by Alaska Airlines (as a result of Alaska acquiring Hawaiian) for its own long-haul transatlantic operations. These jets have since been repainted with Alaska’s livery, and they will begin flights from Seattle to Europe later this month.
