Africa is a missing spot on globe-trotting Carney’s itinerary


Ottawa should publish an Africa strategy implementation plan, organize a prime minister-led trade mission to Africa, and establish dedicated financing to support Canada-Africa investment.

New analysis from ONE suggests Africa could play a role in helping Canada double trade with non-U.S. partners over the next decade, but only if Prime Minister Mark Carney moves the Africa strategy from intention to action, write Elise Legault and Anthony Salloum.

In just one year in office, Prime Minister Mark Carney has visited around 25 countries, an impressive feat that shows his commitment to find new partners and double non-United States trade over the next 10 years. However, there is one region missing on his itinerary: Africa.
