Despite the direct competition for a role, Rogers and Bellingham retain a close friendship and discussed each other’s qualities in an interview forLion’s Den.
Rogers heaped praise on Bellingham for his ability to excel in multiple roles, insisting theReal Madrid midfielder has world-class variety to his game.
“His ability so shift. He can be a completely different player on a given day. I think that is the top one percent, even less, of footballers. You’ll look at his defensive actions and they’re of a midfielder of the highest level,” theAston Villa midfielder said.
“Like his first year at Madrid, ‘we need you to get 20 goals, we don’t have a number nine, we need you to be that guy’. Ok, no problem. The following season, ‘we need you to be an all round’. That ability to switch, you can’t teach that.”

Rogers also praised Bellingham’s mentality. He hailed the 22-year-old for taking games by the scruff of the neck for club and country, even when not at his best.
“I’ll watch him lose the ball, not having his best game. But, that puffing his chest out, putting the team on his back, ‘you’re coming with me’. You can only admire that.
“He can be having a horrible game, people can be on to him, ‘you’ve not been great’, but best believe he’s going to have the final say nine times out of ten. That’s within.”
