Writing my path

“Paper Bricks for Pages Blank”
Dog-eared corners
and worn spines—
on thousands
I’ve stepped
One after another;
a path of books
created a foundation
for me to
explore, learn, and connect
Along a path
of paper bricks
I’ve stepped
Into valleys
that attempt to turn
lost souls into prisoners,
the words of others did
comfort and protect
Across stages
where dark robes flowed
above countless pages
devoured then turned
for those distinctions, earned
Along a path
of paper bricks
I invited others to join me
Some walked beside
some I pulled
others I carried
until that chapter ended
I exchanged
the sure footing
of paper bricks
for the uncertainty
of pages blank
A consumer and reader
of books
I will always be,
but the paper bricks
that once rooted my path
now dance, twirl, and flow through me

I’m headed to an Author Festival at a local city library. My box of books is ready to go, and I’ll be bringing a raffle prize this time, which includes a journal from fellow blogger, Artist Tiffany Arp Daleo. If you’re not familiar with Tiffany’s vibrant abstract art, please give her site a visit. She’s both talented with creating art and titles for her pieces. ✨

A quick follow-up note regarding my recent professional development experience and thank you to those who expressed interest about this in my previous post. On Thursday, I completed an intense and informative training program on speaking, as in being a paid speaker. 🎤 Along with being a published writer, this has been a long-held dream of mine that I am stepping toward. 🙌🏻

About this poem… “Paper Bricks for Pages Blank” was first published on April 5, 2023. It took some searching to find it after thinking of it this morning. 🌄 It’s interesting to revisit previously written posts. Don’t you think, fellow writers? Thanks for stopping by and best to you! 🦋 Michele
