The No. 8 Florida Gators’ winning streak ended on Saturday. After an impressive four-game run, Jon Sumrall suffered his first loss of the season in a disappointing 45-17 defeat to the No. 25 Missouri Tigers.
On Saturday, on ‘CBS Sports College Football,’ analyst Richard Johnson discussed Florida’s performance against the Missouri Tigers. He gave Sumrall and his team a harsh reality check while highlighting their weaknesses. Johnson also praised Missouri quarterback Austin Simmons and the team’s all-around performance.
“If you’re a Florida fan, your worst fears actually got confirmed here,” Johnson said. “The secondary, not up to the task. Offensive line, not up to the task. Defensive line, not up to the task. The skilled players are pretty good. But got to get blocked for in order for them to shine and it just didn’t happen today.
“Credit to Austin Simmons. I thought he played out of his gourd today. He was dealing. And Missouri up front on defense. … They said, ‘I’m gonna make Aaron Philo beat me today.’ And Aaron Philo wasn’t able to do it.”
Austin Simmons completed 23-of-30 passes for 340 yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, Florida quarterback Aaron Philo completed 21-of-34 passes for 197 yards and just one touchdown. This victory helps the Missouri Tigers improve to a 4-1 record after last week’s 31-24 loss to the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

Jon Sumrall expresses his disappointment with Florida’s 45-17 loss to Missouri
In the postgame press conference, Jon Sumrall did not shy away from expressing his disappointment with Saturday’s outcome.
He said that the team did not play up to their standards and also took responsibility for not coaching the players properly.
“We did not play to our standard,” Sumrall said. “Embarrassing performance in every phase. Starts with the coaching, starts with me. I told the guys in the locker room now, I expect everybody to be a man, which means be accountable for your actions and own it.
“I’m going to start that way right now. I’m not going to point fingers at anybody. But we have to play a lot better. I’m sick to my freaking stomach with what he just did. Like, livid.”
The Florida Gators are next scheduled to face the South Carolina Gamecocks on Oct. 10.
