Hampshire captain Georgia Adams has called for the team to “wipe the slate clean” as they prepare for the T20 Blast Finals Day at the Oval on Friday.

The Hawks topped the group table, winning eight of their 12 matches, losing twice and being involved in two tied games.

They face fourth-placed Durham (14:30 BST) with the winners taking on either Surrey or The Blaze in the final (11:00).

Adams told BBC Radio Solent: “I’m a big believer that you always need to wipe the slate clean going into finals.

“I think the most casual I ever went into a Finals Day was in 2024 (for the Southern Vipers) when we were quite lucky enough to put out an incredibly strong team.

“We had five members of the England T20 side that day, but had a pretty tough day at the office and I learnt the hard way in the semi-finals (losing to South East Stars).

“That day taught me a lot. As important as it is to take confidence and momentum from the group stages, it’s also important to start again, and do the simple things really well, and players holding their nerve under a bit more added pressure.”

Hampshire qualified with the best run-rate of 0.874. Batter Maia Bouchier played just six matches, but scored 355 runs.

Adams herself has scored over 340 runs, and was the leading wicket-taker with 23 from her 12 matches.

She says the “remarkable” campaign has been a huge team effort.

“We’ve had almost a different XI every single game, with injuries and England players coming in and out,” she said.

“We’ve asked a lot of a quite young, inexperienced group of players to adapt to a range of roles and styles. But one thing we have had is consistency of preparation and training, and of mindset.”

Adams has won a host of trophies in her career, including the 2021 Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy title, the Charlotte Edwards Cup, the Hundred with the Oval Invincibles, and the 2023–24 Big Bash League with Adelaide Strikers.

She says her message to her Hampshire Hawks side is a very simple one: “You never quite know what to expect from Finals day. We need to take it game by game, especially as it’s two games in a day, and not focusing on the second match.”

Adams added: “My favourite saying is from former Hampshire coach Adi Birrell: ‘The best teams do the ordinary things extraordinarily well’.

“That’s always stuck with me for finals, because with all the added outside noise, we just want to narrow down that focus and keep it simple”.
