With Deadlock’s latest updating promising six new heroes, over 10,000 new voice lines and too much more to mention, it’s clear Valve are still pretty committed to it

It feels weird that Deadlock is technically a game that isn’t out yet, doesn’t it? You can’t even just play it as someone that’s never done so, you have to have someone that’s already got access to send you an invite. Valve didn’t even really acknowledge its existence publicly, and they still sort of treat it as this little secret that everyone’s in on. Two years on, though, it’s still getting updates, and the latest one arrived today changing… well, a lot.

For starters, there’s six new heroes that’ll be arriving in the game: Nurse Harrow, a mean-looking nurse fan artists will definitely do some salacious fan art of, Rat King, an anthropomorphic rat who is a king, Solomon, a guy who plays chess I guess, Deadman Danny, a zombie who looks like The Rocketeer, Baba, a sweet, witchy old woman, and Violet, an artist.

Then there’s the massive visual overhaul. All three of the main lanes have gotten a facelift, with the blue lane really leaning into the New York mid-century aesthetic, the green lane going for a more gothic kind of vibe, and the yellow lane going for an industrial/Wall Street kind of vibe. Amongst all of that are the four districts, one based on the theatre district, another on Chinatown, another that’s just straight up haunted, and the last being a snazzy-looking plaza.

The map itself isn’t the only thing that’s received an upgrade, as a bunch of the game’s UI and HUD elements have seen improvements, from clearer healthbars, improved stat indicators, an event feed to see a match’s most important moments, and much more. Plus, the ping system has had a rework, with various other comms-related elements having been refreshed too.

In terms of other bits, over 10,000 non-ping voice lines have been added in which is just a bit over the top, complete with a dialogue player that lets you listen to all of them. A display for your parry cooldown can now be seen near your reticle, and custom lobbies have been expanded to support up to eight spectators. There are a bevy of new accessibility features too, like modifying your enemies colours, auto movement and firing options, voice over subtitles and more. There are truly too many tweaks, additions, reworks, you know it to mention, so you can read about the rest of them right here.
