Ugg has built a lot of its business on shoes that do not need much explaining: a chestnut boot, a plush slide, a mini version of the same idea. The brand’s latest mary jane is pink, flat and a little strange, which is probably why it feels right for now.

The new Dusty Orchid collection brings a purply-pink shade to the Classic Mini, Classic Micro, Lowmel and the new Quill mary jane. Adéla, Molly Santana and Paloma Sandoval front the campaign, which carries the millennial pink-adjacent hue through pink crosswalks, clouds of pink smoke and head-to-toe pink styling.

The Quill mary jane is the shoe that pushes the release past a standard color update. Priced at $140, the style keeps the familiar strap across the foot, but gives it a chunkier, sneaker-adjacent base. Ugg describes it as a “new fashion-forward style” that “merges the timeless silhouette with the comfort of a sneaker.”

Ugg has been here before. The brand introduced the shearling-lined Bea mary jane in 2025, while PinkPantheress wore the Quill Ballet Sneaker, a different but closely related flat-sneaker shape, during her Coachella debut this spring. The Dusty Orchid Quill mary jane keeps that idea going, only this time in a softer, social media feed-friendly color.

It also comes at a moment where strange hybrid shoes are taking over runways. Ballet flats opened the door, but the shoes following them have been weirder, flatter and harder to label. At Celine, Michael Rider put jazz shoes on the resort 2026 runway for his debut collection, then kept that low-profile dance-shoe idea going for spring 2026 with a divisive strappy ballet lace-up. In May, Nicolas Ghesquière pushed Louis Vuitton into futuristic sneaker-boot territory for cruise 2027. Jil Sander, Dries Van Noten and Bottega Veneta have also backed leather lace-up flats in recent collections. At Chanel, Matthieu Blazy’s cruise 2027 heel-cap “naked shoe” gave the trend its most literal “is this even a shoe” moment.

Ugg’s version is a little less confrontational than its runway counterparts. The Quill mary jane keeps the experiment contained with pink suede, a rounded toe, a strap across the foot and sneaker-like comfort. It is strange enough to fit into the current flat-shoe conversation, but not so strange that it loses the customer who came to Ugg for softness in the first place.

That is probably the smarter read on where the trend is going. The freaky flat is no longer just a runway gimmick or an insider shoe. In Ugg’s hands, it becomes something much more commercially viable: a weird little shoe that still looks easy to wear.

Ugg’s Dusty Orchid collection is now available on the brand’s website, stores and Ugg retailers nationwide.
