It’s a huge day in the world of soccer, with the window about to slam shut for transfer deals for teams competing in Europe’s biggest leagues.

As has so often been the case in recent years, teams in the English Premier League have been the biggest spenders, with the $167 million deal to take French World Cup star Bradley Barcola from PSG to Liverpool earlier this week the most expensive transfer of the summer window so far.

As of Tuesday morning, a massive 1,270 transfers have taken place during the summer window, with those deals totaling an eye-opening $7.6 billion in transfer fees. In terms of the deals that could still be done before Tuesday’s deadline, the biggest transfer could involve Julián Alvarez. The Atletico Madrid striker wants a move to Barcelona, with EPL champion Arsenal also keen to sign the Argentine.

Crystal Palace’s Senegal forward Ismaila Sarr is also a reported late target for EPL rivals Liverpool. Meanwhile, USMNT World Cup star Folarin Balogun could make a switch from Monaco to Premier League Everton, while big-spending Chelsea are linked with a last-gasp move for Monaco’s Senegal midfielder Lamine Camara.

What time do the transfer windows close in the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1?

The five largest European leagues all close their transfer windows on Tuesday, Sept. 1. Here’s a breakdown of the cut-off point for deals in each of the key leagues.

• English Premier League: 11 p.m. BST local time (6 p.m. ET)

• La Liga: Midnight CEST local time (6 p.m. ET)

• Serie A: 8 p.m. CEST local time (2 p.m. ET)

• Bundesliga: 8 p.m. CEST local time (2 p.m. ET)

• French Ligue 1: 11 p.m. CEST local time (5 p.m. ET)

It’s worth noting that clubs in the Dutch Eredivisie and the MLS in the US can sign players until Wednesday, Sept. 2. The Scottish SPL window, meanwhile, closes at 5 p.m. BST on Thursday, Sept. 3, with Austria and Belgium also open until that day.

How to watch the Premier League 2026-27 from anywhere with a VPN

If you’re traveling abroad and want to keep up with all the EPL action while away from home, a VPN can help enhance your privacy and security when streaming.

Virtual private networks encrypt your traffic and prevent your internet service provider from throttling your speeds, and can also be helpful when connecting to public Wi-Fi networks while traveling, adding an extra layer of protection for your devices and logins. VPNs are legal in many countries, including the US and Canada, and can be used for legitimate purposes such as improving online privacy and security.

However, some streaming services may have policies that restrict VPN use for accessing region-specific content. If you’re considering a VPN for streaming, check the platform’s terms of service to ensure compliance.

If you choose to use a VPN, follow the provider’s installation instructions to ensure you’re connected securely and in compliance with applicable laws and service agreements. Some streaming platforms may block access when a VPN is detected, so verifying if your streaming subscription allows VPN usage is crucial.
