Three People Are Killed at a Minnesota Day Care Center

Two adults and a child were killed Wednesday morning at a small day care center in a Minneapolis suburb, police officials said.

The three victims were members of a family, Brent Johnson, the police chief in Hopkins, Minn., told reporters. The assailant, a man, was among those who died, Chief Johnson said.

Chief Johnson called the attack a domestic situation and said investigators did not believe there was a continuing threat. The killings happened around 9 a.m., he said. Chief Johnson said that investigators believe that the two adults who died owned the day care, which operated inside their home.

Six other children who were at the in-home day care center were reunited with their parents, he said.

“This is a horrific, tragic situation for any community, especially here in Hopkins, where we don’t see this type of crime,” Chief Johnson said.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
