I’ve been apart from Crimson Desert for an agonising two weeks thanks to a family holiday, but instead of leaping back into the delightfully weird world of Pywel the moment I got home, I decided to pause my adventure. That’s because the next update sounds like it’s going to be a doozy.
On April 10, Pearl Abyss teased some of the features it’s been working on, including boss rematches, a more dynamic blockade system, difficulty settings, new skills for Damiane and Oongka, new outfits, more pets and mounts, control improvements, better storage—it’s a ridiculously huge list.

“We’re currently preparing our next update which will include several features mentioned in last week’s Dev Update notice,” the studio said on X, “including the addition of a keyboard/mouse and controller preset, difficulty settings, category tabs for your inventory, and more.”

The update is expected out this week, and it’s the inventory changes that have me most excited. Look, I’m a boring old man, but also, this feels supremely necessary. Crimson Desert’s inventory management has been greatly improved since we reviewed the game—when we didn’t even get access to storage, necessitating carrying everything we needed with us at all times. But it’s still pretty poor.
Per the update post, we’ll be getting four new storage categories: food, wardrobe, gatherables and collections. So cooking, crafting, fashion and quest items will all get their own specialised storage. On top of that, when you’re cooking or crafting, you’ll be able to access your food and gatherables storage instead of needing to make sure all the ingredients are already in your inventory. Finally!
While Pearl Abyss hasn’t detailed the exact size of the update, we have been warned that it’s going to be larger than the previous ones, mainly because of the “distant scenery quality improvements” that will be included.
While Crimson Desert is absolutely a looker, it can look a bit funky when you stare off into the distance. The draw distance is genuinely impressive, but naturally there’s a huge dip in quality when you’re looking at things many miles away. That’s to be expected even when you’re looking at real objects with your real eyes, but in the game it can be distractingly pronounced. Pearl Abyss promises enhanced realism with this update, so I expect I’ll be taking even more screenshots of its fancy vistas.
Since this is gonna be a big ‘un, maybe make sure you’ve got space on the SSD.
