The message Julian Alvarez sent to PSG, Arsenal: ‘Thanks, but I want to go to Barcelona’

Not many expected Julian Alvarez to really step forward and make a public statement requesting a departure from Atletico Madrid.

The player, however, surprised everyone after Argentina’s win over Austria last night as he came out to do exactly that, and the pressure on Atletico Madrid has mounted ever since.

“The best thing for everyone is a transfer. I want to fulfil my dream,” Alvarez confessed to the media last night. Barcelona, now, are looking to return with a bigger bid.

Only one destination in mind

As reported by Fabrizio Romano in a recent update, Alvarez’s ‘dream’ is restricted to Barcelona and the player’s open admission was made keeping only one club in mind and not asking for a general transfer.

The Italian journalist reports that PSG and Arsenal have both made approaches for Alvarez, but the player has turned them down with no hesitation.

“Thanks, but I want to go to Barcelona,” is what the player told both interested parties.

Needless to say, the pressure is now on Atletico Madrid who must reconcile with the fact that a departure may well be the best solution for all parties involved.

Further, Barcelona also face some pressure to help the player fulfil his dream after he came out openly to ask for the move.

A difficult negotiation

Without Alvarez’s public gesture, a move to Barcelona was next to impossible given Atletico Madrid’s firm chance. His statement makes it possible, but it still remains very challenging.

Los Rojiblancos, dealing with denial, are struggling to process the evolution of the situation. Instead of accepting the decision with grace, they are now looking to take legal action against the Blaugrana for making contact with a player under contract.

Atletico Madrid are said to be furious with how Barcelona conduct their business and are reportedly opposed to selling to the Catalans under any circumstances. For a move to go through, thus, will require all the stars to line up.

Last season, Alvarez racked up eight goals and four assists in 29 league appearances playing for an Atletico Madrid that did not play the most attacking football.

He is seen to have the right profile for Barcelona’s style of play, and the Catalans will return with a new proposal soon.
