The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth hits a new concurrent player record on Steam 12 years after it was released

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is one of those indie games – much like Terraria – that’s refused to stop growing since its birth more than a decade ago. Fast-forward to 2026 and an astonishingly good Steam Summer Sale discount has elevated it to new heights.

At the time of writing, The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is 90 percent off on Steam, which isn’t only a cracking deal, but also the cheapest the game – and its massive expansion DLCs – has ever been on Valve’s platform. For £3.70 you can grab the Complete Bundle and gain access to one of the finest modern roguelikes, I believe.

Rebirth’s concurrent player count rocketed after the deal was deployed a few days ago, up to almost 131k players. Its previous highest peak was 70,701 players in April 2021. As recorded by SteamDB, the total player increase in the last 30 days is 394.9 percent – how’s that for an upward curve?

A quick glance at Steam’s Most Played chart confirms it’s currently the 10th biggest game on the platform, topping recent hits like Path of Exile 2 and Slay the Spire 2. It’s also surpassed another enduring title that reached new heights recently: Dead by Daylight.

This top-down dungeon crawler full of biblical references, hidden routes, and all sorts of chaotic item synergies remains a blast with enough content, unlocks, and raw replay value to stay fresh for hundreds of hours.

Following the gigantic Afterbirth and Afterbirth+ expansions, released in 2015 and 2017 respectively, The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth grew again with 2021’s community-inspired, sequel-sized Repentance DLC. That was meant to be the last content drop for real, yet 2024 gave us the free Repentance+ DLC, which finally added online co-op to the disturbingly charming roguelike.

Original Binding of Isaac creator Edmund McMillen’s most recent game, Mewgenics, also made quite a splash earlier this year, and fans are currently waiting for console ports. On that note, it’s worth pointing out The Binding of Isaac: Repentance+ will also get a (pricey) Nintendo Switch 2 physical release in Q3 2026.
