It doesn’t really get better than Kauai. I’ve had the privilege of staying on Hawaii’s “Garden Isle” multiple times in the past few years and not only is it absolutely beautiful, but it’s home to a plethora of great hotels and resorts that are available to book with points.

Here are a few of my favorites.

Koloa Landing at Poipu, an Autograph Collection by Marriott

One of the best points values on Kauai, Koloa Landing Resort at Poipu was a really pleasant surprise after a recent stay with my brother. This is a Marriott Autograph Collection hotel and the resort has several lagoon-style swimming pools, adult pools, hot tubs and even a water slide.

Starting at just 81,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night (plus a $40/night resort fee), this resort can be a great value for your points (especially if you stay five nights and get a fifth night free). Cash rates start about $535 a night.

These condo-style units are a great option for families, too, with some of them having massive kitchens and large living spaces. Our unit had a washer and dyer, which can really come in handy.

Service was excellent during my stay and my large two-bedroom apartment had a gorgeous lanai with views of the property.

While you won’t be on the beach at this resort, the famous Poipu Beach is just a 15-minute walk away.

While I got to enjoy the resort with my brother. It’s high on my list for a return trip now, so I can bring my other brother and his three kids. It is a special treat to have so much room at a resort in Hawaii (and the washer/dryer doesn’t hurt).

Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa

TPG’s Summer Hull calls the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa the “crown jewel of award redemptions.” I couldn’t agree more. In fact, I’ve booked this resort several times now using my World of Hyatt points.

Even with a recent spike in award prices, this is one of the best deals in the world of points and miles. Award prices start at 55,000 World of Hyatt points per night. That sounds like a lot, but since room rates start around $818 and can sometimes top $2,000, it’s still a great use of points.

You’ll find an incredible saltwater lagoon, plenty of loungers, a stunning beach (where you’ll sometimes spot monk seals), a massive spa and plenty of swimming pools and hot tubs.

Both times I’ve stayed, I was upgraded to a suite using a Hyatt suite upgrade award that comes with my World of Hyatt Globalist status. The rooms are large and well-kept with large televisions and many have lanais or balconies.

Unusually for Hawaii resorts, there are also several great restaurants on property, including Tidepools and Stevenson’s Library.

Finally, there’s also a Grand Club at the property with a good selection of food in the mornings and evenings. If you have access or have a club lounge access award to use (or buy your way in), it’s a great way to save some money on food and beverage costs. World of Hyatt Globalists get free access to the Club.

It’s a resort I’ll come back to again and again.

Sheraton Kauai Resort

Another favorite hotel on Kauai is the Sheraton Kauai Resort, set in one of the island’s best locations – right on Poipu Beach.

The hotel is literally facing the world-famous beach and also has several swimming pools and hot tubs.

Cash rates start at $503 (including a $48 daily resort fee), but you can book this family-friendly resort for as few as 88,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night. Getting a fifth night free can make it an even better deal, bringing the average nightly rate to 72,000 points per night.

Rooms are on the small side, but they were refreshed back in 2018 and 2019, and feature a lanai or balcony. But it’s really about the location and proximity to Poipu Beach at this hotel.

I loved my stay in a beachfront room at the Sheraton Kauai and would happily go back just to spend some more time on that amazing beach.

Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort

I’ve also gotten to experience the Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach, which is near another famous stretch of Kauai’s beaches.

While this property isn’t as fancy, it’s a great, more moderately priced option in paradise.

Cash rates are as low as $332, and that includes the $45 per night resort fee. Points can be a great value here. You can book a five-night stay for just 304,000 Marriott Bonvoy points (plus $267 in resort fees and taxes). That’s as low as 75,000 points per night. When you book five nights, you’d essentially pay just under 61,000 points per night, thanks to the fifth night free on award stays.

The rooms here are in good shape with fairly recent renovations and a beachy vibe.

Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach is in an excellent location and the modern, refreshed rooms are a good, more budget-friendly option on the Garden Isle.

Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas

I haven’t gotten to experience it myself, but The Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas on the north side of Kauai get rave reviews and it’s another great Marriott option on the island.

These are condo-style accommodations, like Koloa Landing, so you and your loved ones will likely have more space to stretch out.

TPG’s Summer Hull rented a two-bedroom unit, but there are also studios available as well as even larger accommodations.

Cash rates start as low as $388. Good news: there is no resort fee! Points bookings start at 74,500 points per night, though availability was not widespread during my searches.

Hilton Vacation Club The Point at Poipu

There are only a few options for those of you with Hilton Honors points. While I haven’t stayed there, I’ve walked by the Hilton Vacation Club The Points at Poipu. It’s just down the coast from the Grand Hyatt Kauai, so you’d have access to the nearby beach (about a 10-minute walk away).

The rooms look a bit dated from what I’ve been able to discover, but there are a few nice pools and the grounds are well-maintained. The rooms here, too, are condo-style, all with two bedrooms, kitchens and living areas. You’ll have a washer and dryer in the unit as well.

Prices start as low as $366, including a $40 per night resort fee or 163,000 Hilton Honors points per night. That’s not the best deal for an award night, but might make sense in some circumstances. I only found premium award availability during my searches.

If you are looking for a more reasonable Hilton option, check out the Hilton Garden Inn Kauai Wailua Bay, where rates start as low as 65,000 Hilton Honors points per night.

Another option coming soon is Hale Hokuala Kauai, a Curio Collection by Hilton property, which debuts later this year. It’s accepting reservations for stays beginning October 1, 2026.

Rates at the first Curio hotel in Hawaii start at 95,000 points per night. Cash rates start at $562.

Bottom line

Kauai is one of my favorite places on Earth. I go back again and again, but it’s also one of the priciest islands in Hawaii. That’s why having some good points hotel options is so great.

From beachfront resorts to sprawling villa-style properties, there’s something for everyone and for every budget. While the Grand Hyatt is still my top overall pick, I’ve loved getting to try some condo-style accommodations, too. Marriott fans have several excellent choices, which are especially good for families.

On my next trip, I’ll try a stay at the Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas and the Hilton Vacation Club The Point at Poipu, so I can check those ones off my list, too.

Any excuse to go back to Kauai will do.
