Terraria marks 70 million sales and 15th anniversary with a promise to “continue beyond” its next big update

Terraria developer Re-Logic has insisted that it is committed to ensuring “the world of Terraria remains and will remain vibrant” as the sandbox game marks its 15th anniversary.

Sitting in 70 million game libraries across PC, console, and mobile – a milestone developer Re-Logic calls “equal parts insane and humbling” – the team vowed that “Terraria updates will continue beyond 1.4.6/Crossplay”.

The team has also been working on “a few items” to mark the anniversary, including a (mysterious) 15th anniversary collector’s edition and Terraria Design Works, a retrospective look at the life of Terraria, developed in collaboration with Lost in Cult.

“It is really hard to put into words what your support for these many years has meant to our little studio,” the studio wrote in an update on Steam.

“Simply put, you all are the engine that makes this all work. Your support allows us to keep going, keep expanding upon Terraria, without having to fall back to price increases or microtransactions. This is becoming increasingly rare in modern gaming, and we cannot thank you enough for making what we do every day possible.

“From the hardcore players with thousands of hours to those just discovering our ‘metroidvania in a sandbox’ today… from the builders to the speedrunners… from those that we interact with regularly in our community to those that just enjoy the game in silence… from those that are regular Terraria enjoyers to those that like to shake things up with all sorts of mods on tModloader… each and every one of you are precious to us.”

The statement concluded: “We hope that our game has brought you some joy over the years. Terraria is a unique experience one that we like to think that we have shaped together alongside the fans into the awesomeness that it is today. This is as much your journey as it is ours!”

The Design Works book is set to go on sale on 28th May. The collector’s edition has yet to be dated, but Re-Logic promises you can “expect to receive full details and for pre-orders to open up sometime in June”.
