‘Supergirl’s Craig Gillespie to Direct ‘Homewreckers’

Back in January last year, word got out of a bidding war for a new sci-fi erotic thriller project called ‘Homewreckers’ that had studios and streamers hot under the collar and Glen Powell attached to star.

While there hasn’t seemingly been movement on a distribution home, Legendary Pictures is moving ahead, with Deadline bringing news that ‘Supergirl’ director Craig Gillespie is making a deal to oversee the movie.

While the superhero outing hasn’t exactly soared at the box office, it still represents Gillespie’s best launch for a movie, and this could be just the ticket to let him move on.

What’s the story of ‘Homewreckers’?

Neil Paik’s story, an unpublished three-chapter novella he’ll adapt himself, is being kept under wraps for now, at least outside of those who are trying to buy the movie project.

But according to The Hollywood Reporter, it’s being described as in the style of erotic thrillers such as ‘Fatal Attraction’ or ‘9½ Weeks,’ yet with a science fiction twist akin to the work of Alex Garland or the Netflix series ‘Black Mirror.’

Paik is one of those authors who has developed a talent for turning his short stories into coveted projects: ‘Reawakening,’ published by Six by Eight Press, was set up at Amazon as a series with ‘The Chi’s Lena Waithe overseeing it, also after a competitive situation. Another short story, ‘Rainbowfish,’ was set up at Warners.

Where else can we see Glen Powell?

Powell, last seen on screens in ‘How to Make a Killing,’ has a few movies on the way, including J.J. Abrams’ ‘The Great Beyond’ and Judd Apatow’s ‘The Comeback King.’ He’ll also be back for a second season of football comedy ‘Chad Powers.’
