Stocks brace for ‘September Effect’ in final day of August trading


US stocks (^DJI, ^IXIC, ^GSPC) are seeing red to kick off the final day of trading in August — leaving just one more month left in 2026’s third quarter — as the market braces for the so-called September Effect.

Yahoo Finance Markets and Data Editor Jared Blikre and LPL Financial chief technical strategist Adam Turnquist outline the historical expectation for stocks in September.
