Stockport 1 – 2 Blackpool

Blackpool climbed to sixth place in the League One table thanks to an impressive 2-1 win away at Stockport.

Tom Bloxham and Josh Bowler scored the crucial goals in the first half to make it four points from two matches for the Seasiders.

County halved the deficit in the fifth minute of stoppage time through forward Mikael Mandron, but defeat on the back of an opening-day win means they drop to ninth.

Stockport started the brighter of the two teams, with Harry Wood seeing a volley saved by Bailey Peacock-Farrell before shooting over the crossbar from Ben Osborn’s pull-back.

But it was Blackpool who went ahead in the 22nd minute as Bloxham latched onto a long ball in behind from Peacock-Farrell before finishing low into the bottom corner.

The hosts had two good chances to equalise, but Jack Diamond and Ryan Glover both missed the target with free headers from very favourable positions.

And they were made to pay in the 40th minute when Bowler tapped the ball into an empty net after Bloxham’s effort was saved by Ollie Whatmuff.

County came close to making it 2-1 before half-time through Diamond, who was denied by Peacock-Farrell from point-blank range.

Bloxham forced a good save out of Whatmuff shortly after the break as the Seasiders looked to put the game to bed.

County were restricted to very few opportunities in the second half until late on, with Benony Andresson’s header brilliantly saved by Peacock-Farrell and Diamond’s long-distance shot rattling the crossbar.

They did pull one back in the dying moments as Mandron scored from fellow substitute Che Gardner’s cross, but it was nothing more than a consolation.
