Stardew Valley is celebrating being one third the age of Pokémon with a video looking at its highly anticipated next update

Pokémon is 30 this week. Stardew Valley is 10! Coincidence? YOU DECIDE. Our focus here, though, is developer Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone’s smash-hit farming game, which is celebrating its major birthday milestone with a special video featuring, among other things, a look at its forthcoming 1.7 update.

Stardew Valley launched for PC on 26th February, 2016, meaning today, specifically, marks its tenth anniversary. And Barone confirmed he had a bit of a treat planned for the occasion on social media earlier the week. Officially, the video – which is set to air at 7pm in the UK this evening – is a “retrospective and new spouse reveal”, which will include some old pre-release footage of the game, with Barone providing commentary.

He’ll also be talking about the many updates Stardew Valley has received over the years, which brings us to that “spouse reveal”. Last August – despite previously saying there’d be no more Stardew Valley updates until after the release of his next game, the Haunted Chocolatier – Barone revealed he’d had a bit of a change of heart. Then, back in February, he teased the forthcoming 1.7 update would include upgrades to the children of Stardew Valley, making them “a little more interesting”, as well as two new marriage candidates for players to woo. And it’s the latter we’ll be meeting tonight.

And that’s pretty much all there is to report until after Barone’s anniversary video airs. So if you fancy meeting your new potential life partners, you’ll be wanting to point your face at YouTube starting 7pm GMT/8pm CET/11am PST.

As for the long-awaited Haunted Chocolatier, Barone recently revealed that work on his next game, originally announced back in 2021, had been “very productive lately”. There’s still no whiff of a release date yet, however, with Barone only saying it’ll “come out when it’s done.”
