S&P/TSX composite up more than 100 points, U.S. stock markets mixed



TORONTO — Strength in the technology and base metal sectors helped Canada’s main stock index gain more than 100 points in late-morning trading, while U.S. stock markets were mixed.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 116.50 points at 34,098.32.

TORONTO — Strength in the technology and base metal sectors helped Canada’s main stock index gain more than 100 points in late-morning trading, while U.S. stock markets were mixed.

The S&P/TSX composite index was up 116.50 points at 34,098.32.

In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 31.52 points at 49,879.07. The S&P 500 index was up 13.11 points at 7,378.23, while the Nasdaq composite was up 137.73 points at 25,976.67.

The Canadian dollar traded for 73.35 cents US compared with 73.39 cents US on Wednesday.

The June crude oil contract was down US$3.43 at US$91.65 per barrel.

The June gold contract was up US$74.40 at US$4,768.70 an ounce.
