TORONTO — Canada’s benchmark index lost ground on Wednesday, weighed down by losses in the energy sector, while U.S. markets were also negative after the Federal Reserve hiked interest rates.

TORONTO — Canada’s benchmark index lost ground on Wednesday, weighed down by losses in the energy sector, while U.S. markets were also negative after the Federal Reserve hiked interest rates.
The S&P/TSX composite index was down 90.80 points at 35,491.27.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 631.21 points at 51,461.90. The S&P 500 index was down 33.92 points at 7,551.81, while the Nasdaq composite was down 3.15 points at 25,978.42.
The Canadian dollar traded for 71.70 cents US, compared with 71.85 cents US on Tuesday.
The October crude oil contract was down US$3.40 at US$102.43 per barrel.
The December gold contract was up US$54.70 at US$4,387.50 an ounce.
